Ingredients

  • 2 ounces blanco or silver tequila
  • 1 ounce cinnamon syrup
  • ½ ounce allspice dram
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • ½ ounce orange liqueur Cointreau or Triple Sec
  • Cinnamon stick for garnish
  • Orange slice for garnish
  • Fresh cranberries for garnish optional
  • Salt or sugar for rim optional
  • 1 cup water for cinnamon syrup
  • 1 cup granulated sugar for cinnamon syrup
  • 4-5 cinnamon sticks for cinnamon syrup
  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring spoons
  • Margarita glass
  • Fine-mesh sieve
  • Saucepan
  • Stirring spoon
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Chill your margarita glass in the freezer for at least 15 minutes.
  2. If desired, prepare the rim of your glass by moistening it with a lime wedge and dipping it in salt or sugar.
  3. To make the cinnamon syrup, combine water, sugar, and cinnamon sticks in a saucepan.
  4. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the cinnamon to infuse.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool completely. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve.
  7. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the tequila, cinnamon syrup, allspice dram, lime juice, and orange liqueur.
  8. Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  9. Strain the margarita into your chilled, rimmed glass filled with fresh ice.
  10. Garnish with a cinnamon stick, an orange slice, and a few fresh cranberries (if using).
  11. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

If the margarita is too sweet, add more lime juice. For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or use a more intense cinnamon syrup. If the margarita is too strong, add a splash of club soda or sparkling water. You can infuse the tequila with cinnamon sticks or orange peels for added flavor. For a non-alcoholic version, replace the tequila with a non-alcoholic alternative or sparkling apple cider. Cinnamon syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
