Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups liquid base filtered water, unsweetened almond milk, or coconut water
  • 2 big handfuls fresh spinach or kale stems removed
  • 1 cup frozen mango or pineapple chunks
  • ½ ripe banana fresh or frozen
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Optional Boosters: 1 tablespoon chia seeds or ground flaxseed
  • Optional Boosters: ½ inch fresh ginger, peeled
  • Optional Boosters: Small handful fresh mint or parsley
  • Optional Boosters: ¼ ripe avocado

Equipment

  • High-speed blender
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Glass for serving

Method

  1. Pour the chosen liquid base into the blender first.
  2. Add the fresh spinach or kale leaves.
  3. Layer in the frozen fruit, banana, lemon juice, and any chosen optional boosters (e.g., seeds, ginger, herbs, avocado).
  4. Secure the blender lid. Start blending on low speed, then gradually increase to high speed.
  5. Blend for 45-60 seconds, or until completely smooth and creamy with no visible green flecks.
  6. If the smoothie is too thick, add a splash more liquid and blend for another 10 seconds.
  7. Taste and adjust sweetness or flavor if desired (e.g., add more banana or a pinch of ginger).
  8. Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately for the best flavor and nutrient content.

Notes

For a creamier texture, use frozen banana. To prevent waste, freeze wilting greens blended with water in ice cube trays for future smoothies. Balance bitterness from kale with extra banana or a teaspoon of raw honey. For a complete meal, add a scoop of plain or vanilla protein powder. Prepare smoothie packs in advance by portioning greens and frozen fruit into freezer bags for quick morning assembly.
