Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons harissa paste, adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce, optional
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • Small mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven
  • Instant-read thermometer
  • Sharp knife
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the harissa paste, honey, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, and soy sauce (if using).
  3. Season the glaze with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels.
  5. If using skin-on salmon, score the skin lightly with a sharp knife to prevent curling.
  6. Place the salmon fillets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Brush the harissa glaze evenly over the top of each salmon fillet.
  8. Bake the salmon for 12-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
  9. For a more caramelized glaze, broil the salmon for the last 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  10. Remove the salmon from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
  11. Garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley. Serve immediately.

Notes

Adjust the amount of harissa paste to your spice preference. Patting the salmon dry is crucial for glaze adhesion and browning. Broiling should be done with caution to prevent burning. Maple syrup can be used as a vegan substitute for honey. This glaze also works well with other seafood, like shrimp.
