  • Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Glasses
  • Ice

Method

  1. Juice the Citrus: Freshly squeezed juice is essential for the best flavor. Avoid bottled juice if possible.
  2. Make the Simple Syrup: Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let cool completely.
  3. Zest the Citrus: Use a microplane or zester to remove the zest from the oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and limes. Be careful not to zest the pith.
  4. Combine Ingredients: In a large punch bowl, combine the orange juice, grapefruit juice, lime juice, lemon juice, simple syrup, and citrus zests. Stir well to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed. If you're using orange liqueur or grenadine, add it now.
  5. Chill: Cover the punch bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Add Sparkle and Garnish: Just before serving, add the chilled ginger ale and sparkling water (if using). Stir gently to combine. Add orange slices, grapefruit slices, lime wedges, and fresh mint sprigs to garnish. Float cranberries on top for added visual appeal.
  7. Serve: Serve the punch in glasses filled with ice. Encourage guests to add extra garnishes as desired.

Notes

For best results, use freshly squeezed juice and chill the punch base for at least 2 hours before serving. Adjust the sweetness to your liking. If you're making the punch ahead of time, add the ginger ale right before serving to maintain its fizz. You can also offer a carbonated option on the side for guests to add themselves. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
