Ingredients

  • 1 pound sliced ham deli-style
  • 8 ounces Swiss cheese, sliced
  • 4 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Serrated knife
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk
  • Aluminum foil
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Using a serrated knife, carefully slice the entire slab of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the top and bottom buns connected as one piece each.
  3. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Layer the ham evenly over the bottom rolls.
  5. Top with the Swiss and provolone cheese slices, making sure to cover the ham completely.
  6. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, dried minced onion, and garlic powder. Whisk until well combined.
  8. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the top of the rolls, making sure to saturate the entire surface.
  9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  10. Bake for 20 minutes.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Let the sliders rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Don't skimp on the cheese! Use good quality ham. Don’t skip the buttery topping. Press down gently after assembling the sliders. Keep an eye on them while baking. For variations, try different cheeses like cheddar or pepper jack, add cooked bacon or turkey, add a pinch of red pepper flakes for spice, spread honey mustard on the buns, or add sliced vegetables. You can assemble the sliders up to 24 hours in advance. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
