A clear glass shot glass holds a Mini Baby Guinness Shot, made with coffee liqueur and Irish cream liqueur.

Mini Baby Guinness Shot

The Mini Baby Guinness is a visually stunning layered shot that perfectly mimics a pint of stout. Its success relies on the precise physics of density, using chilled coffee liqueur as the dense base and Irish cream floated on top to create the creamy head. This foolproof method ensures a clean separation and a deliciously balanced flavor in every sip.

Equipment

  • 2-ounce shot glass (pony glass)
  • Bar spoon with twisted handle or layering spoon (or a clean inverted teaspoon)
  • Jigger or measuring tool for ounces/ml

Method

  1. Chill the coffee liqueur and Irish cream liqueur thoroughly.
  2. Place a clean, dry 2-ounce shot glass on a stable, level surface.
  3. Pour 1 oz of the chilled coffee liqueur directly into the shot glass.
  4. Hold a bar spoon upside down. Position the back of the spoon's bowl just inside the rim of the glass, letting the tip gently touch the surface of the coffee liqueur.
  5. Slowly and steadily pour the 0.5 oz of chilled Irish cream liqueur over the convex back of the spoon. It will flow down the side and rise from the bottom to form a distinct layer.
  6. Once the Irish cream layer is formed and reaches just below the rim, carefully remove the spoon.
  7. For a flaming version (optional): carefully float a teaspoon of overproof rum on the very top. With extreme caution, ignite it briefly, extinguish the flame, and then consume the shot immediately.
  8. Serve immediately and consume in one go to experience the combined flavors.

Notes

For perfect layers, ensure both liqueurs are well-chilled. The bar spoon technique is critical for a clean pour; an inverted teaspoon can work in a pinch. If a generic Irish cream style liqueur fails to float, its density may be too high—try a different brand. Always exercise extreme caution if attempting the flaming version, and never pour flammable liquids near an open flame.
