  • Measuring cups
  • Tortilla warmer or microwave
  • Dry skillet (optional)

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the cubed chicken to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook for another minute, stirring constantly, until the garlic is fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  6. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
  7. Gradually whisk in the milk, making sure to smooth out any lumps.
  8. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly.
  9. Reduce heat to low and stir in the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  10. Add the cheddar and mozzarella cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
  11. Stir in garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
  12. Warm the tortillas according to package directions.

  14. Spoon a generous amount of the cheese sauce onto the center of the tortilla.
  15. Top with a portion of the garlic chicken.
  16. Add any optional toppings, such as chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sour cream, salsa, or avocado.
  17. Fold in the sides of the tortilla, then roll it up tightly.
  18. Serve the Garlic Cheese Chicken Wraps immediately.
  19. For a warmer wrap, lightly grill the assembled wraps in a dry skillet for a minute or two on each side until lightly golden brown.

Notes

For chicken that's too dry, add a tablespoon of chicken broth or water to the skillet during the last minute of cooking. For cheese sauce that's too thick, add a splash of milk; if it's too thin, simmer for a few minutes longer. Ensure cream cheese is softened for a smooth sauce. Warm tortillas to prevent cracking and avoid overfilling the wraps. Leftover wraps can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, storing the chicken and cheese sauce separately from the tortillas. Reheat the wraps in a dry skillet or microwave.
