- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the cubed chicken to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for another minute, stirring constantly, until the garlic is fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, making sure to smooth out any lumps.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring constantly, until it thickens slightly.
- Reduce heat to low and stir in the softened cream cheese until smooth.
- Add the cheddar and mozzarella cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Stir in garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Warm the tortillas according to package directions.
- Lay a tortilla flat on a clean surface.
- Spoon a generous amount of the cheese sauce onto the center of the tortilla.
- Top with a portion of the garlic chicken.
- Add any optional toppings, such as chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sour cream, salsa, or avocado.
- Fold in the sides of the tortilla, then roll it up tightly.
- Serve the Garlic Cheese Chicken Wraps immediately.
- For a warmer wrap, lightly grill the assembled wraps in a dry skillet for a minute or two on each side until lightly golden brown.
Notes
For chicken that's too dry, add a tablespoon of chicken broth or water to the skillet during the last minute of cooking. For cheese sauce that's too thick, add a splash of milk; if it's too thin, simmer for a few minutes longer. Ensure cream cheese is softened for a smooth sauce. Warm tortillas to prevent cracking and avoid overfilling the wraps. Leftover wraps can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, storing the chicken and cheese sauce separately from the tortillas. Reheat the wraps in a dry skillet or microwave.
