- Pour the Rice Chex cereal into a large bowl.
- In a large, microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and butter.
- Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate.
- Stir in the strawberry cake mix, vanilla extract, and pink food coloring (if using) into the melted chocolate mixture until well combined.
- Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the Rice Chex cereal. Gently fold the cereal into the chocolate until it's evenly coated.
- In a large ziplock bag, combine the powdered sugar and crushed freeze-dried strawberries. Seal the bag and shake well to combine.
- Add the chocolate-coated cereal to the bag with the powdered sugar mixture. Seal the bag tightly and shake until the cereal is completely coated.
- Spread the puppy chow in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to cool completely.
- Once cooled, store in an airtight container.
Notes
Don't overheat the chocolate to prevent it from seizing. Use high-quality white chocolate for the best flavor. Crush the freeze-dried strawberries finely for even flavor distribution. Shake the mixture well for a fluffy coating. Cool completely on a baking sheet to prevent clumping. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For added fun, include sprinkles in the powdered sugar mixture or drizzle with melted milk chocolate after cooling.
