Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian sweet rolls like King's Hawaiian
  • 1 pound sliced ham deli-style
  • 8 ounces sliced cheese cheddar, Swiss, provolone, or a combination
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion optional

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Bread knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Aluminum foil

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Using a large bread knife, carefully slice the entire slab of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the top and bottom halves connected as one piece.
  3. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Layer the sliced ham evenly over the bottom rolls.
  5. Top the ham with the sliced cheese, making sure to cover the entire surface. If you're using multiple types of cheese, layer them for a more complex flavor profile.
  6. Carefully place the top half of the rolls back over the cheese.
  7. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, and dried minced onion (if using).
  8. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the top of the rolls, making sure to drizzle it all over so every slider gets a taste of that deliciousness.
  9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  10. Bake for 20 minutes covered.
  11. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the tops of the rolls are golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For dry rolls, cover the baking dish with foil. If cheese isn't melting, ensure oven is at correct temperature or bake a few extra minutes. To prevent rolls from browning too quickly, lower the oven temperature or cover loosely with foil. Assembled sliders can be refrigerated up to 24 hours in advance. Let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
