Ingredients

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • Optional: Cooked bacon crumbles, to taste
  • Optional: Shredded cheddar cheese, to taste
  • Optional: Chopped green onions, to taste
  • Optional: Hot sauce, to taste

Equipment

  • Crock Pot (Slow Cooker)
  • Fork
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cup
  • Spoon

Method

  1. Lightly grease your slow cooker.
  2. Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of the crock pot in a single layer.
  3. Sprinkle the ranch dressing mix evenly over the chicken breasts.
  4. Cut the softened cream cheese into cubes and scatter them over the chicken.
  5. Pour the chicken broth over everything.
  6. Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. Cooking times may vary depending on your slow cooker, so keep an eye on it.
  7. Once the chicken is cooked through and easily shreds with a fork, shred it directly in the crock pot using two forks.
  8. Stir everything together until the chicken is evenly coated in the creamy ranch sauce.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

Don't overcook the chicken. Use softened cream cheese for a smoother sauce. Chicken broth adds moisture and flavor. Taste and adjust seasoning after shredding. Let it simmer for 15-30 minutes after shredding to meld the flavors. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for 2-3 months. For a thinner sauce add milk or broth, for a thicker sauce mix cornstarch with water and add in the last 30 minutes.
