Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup fig jam
  • 1 tablespoon chopped pecans or walnuts optional
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional
  • Crackers, sliced baguette, or apple slices, for serving

Equipment

  • Small oven-safe dish or skillet
  • Baking sheet
  • Knife
  • Spoon

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the wheel of brie in the oven-safe dish or skillet.
  3. If desired, score the top of the brie lightly in a crosshatch pattern.
  4. Spread the fig jam evenly over the top of the brie.
  5. Sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts, if using.
  6. Drizzle with honey, if using.
  7. Place the dish on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the brie is softened and the jam is bubbly.
  8. Watch carefully to prevent overbaking. The center should be soft to the touch but not completely liquid.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute or two before serving.
  10. Serve immediately with crackers, sliced baguette, or apple slices.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a high-quality fig jam with a touch of balsamic vinegar. Experiment with other fruit preserves like apricot or cherry. Toasted nuts add a delightful crunch. Do not overbake the brie, as it will become oily and rubbery. Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs can be added to the serving platter for an elegant touch. This is best served immediately.
