Sausage roll maker jam doughnuts


Recipe may contain gluten, milk, soy, sesame and egg.

The ultimate cheat’s dessert, this recipe uses a Kmart sausage roll maker appliance to make quick and easy fluffy cinnamon doughnuts served with jam and cream.

8 Ingredients

  • 190g (1 1/4 cups) plain flour

  • 110g (1/2 cup) caster sugar, plus 55g (1/4 cup) extra, to sprinkle

  • 100g butter, melted, cooled, plus 25g extra to brush

  • 125ml (1/2 cup) milk

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • Strawberry jam, to serve

  • Whipped cream, to serve

  • Step 1

    Use a balloon whisk to whisk together the flour

    (190g (1 1/4 cups) plain flour) and sugar (110g (1/2 cup) caster sugar, plus 55g (1/4 cup) extra, to sprinkle) in a medium bowl. Make a well in the centre. Add the butter (100g butter, melted, cooled, plus 25g extra to brush), milk (125ml (1/2 cup) milk) and egg (1 egg) and whisk until combined.

  • Step 2

    Divide half of the batter among the holes of the sausage roll maker. Close and turn on. Cook for 10 minutes or until cooked through. Transfer to a wire rack. Repeat with the remaining batter. Allow to cool completely.

  • Step 3

    Use a serrated knife to cut lengthways down each “doughnut”, without cutting all the way through. Brush with the extra melted butter.

  • Step 4

    Combine the extra sugar and the cinnamon (1/2 tsp cinnamon) in a bowl. Sprinkle over the doughnuts. Pipe or spoon in the jam (Strawberry jam, to serve) and the cream (Whipped cream, to serve). Serve.
