Potato and gravy soup

Here’s a fast food hack that will knock your socks off. We’ve used KFC’s beloved Potato & Gravy to make this quick and hearty soup. Simply fry some leek and bacon, add the mashed potato and gravy straight from the tub, plus some stock and cream and you have yourself a flavour-packed warmer. The best part is, you can play a little game of “guess how I made this” with the person you serve it to.

7 Ingredients


  • 50g butter, chopped

  • 2 leeks, trimmed, thinly sliced

  • 200g packet diced bacon

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 500ml (2 cups) salt-reduced chicken stock

  • 2 tubs KFC Large Potato & Gravy

  • 125ml (1/2 cup) thickened cream, plus extra, to serve

3 Method Steps


  • Step 1

    Melt the butter
    (50g butter, chopped)
    in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the leek
    (2 leeks, trimmed, thinly sliced)
    and bacon
    (200g packet diced bacon)
    and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until bacon is golden. Add oil
    (1 tbsp olive oil)
    and stir until combined. Reserve one quarter of the mixture and set aside.

  • Step 2

    Add the stock
    (500ml (2 cups) salt-reduced chicken stock)
    and potato
    (2 tubs KFC Large Potato & Gravy)
    & gravy to the pan. Cook, stirring, for 2 minutes or until heated through. Add the cream
    (125ml (1/2 cup) thickened cream, plus extra, to serve)
    and stir until combined.

  • Step 3

    Top with reserved bacon mixture. Drizzle with extra cream to serve.
