Using a Kmart pie maker and only 7 ingredients, these sweet scrolls are the perfect morning tea treat.
225g (1 1/2 cups) self-raising flour
1 tbsp icing sugar
40g cold butter, chopped, plus 60g extra, melted
125ml (1/2 cup) milk
120g Caramilk chocolate, chopped, plus 60g extra, melted
35g (1/3 cup) walnut halves, chopped
Sea salt flakes, to sprinkle
5 Method Steps
Step 1Sift the flour and icing sugar into a medium bowl. Add the chopped butter. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Make a well in the centre. Add the milk and use a flat-bladed knife to mix until just combined. Turn onto a lightly floured surface.
Step 2Gently shape the dough into a rectangle. Dust a rolling pin with flour and roll out to a 21 x 27cm rectangle. Transfer to a sheet of baking paper.
Step 3Brush the dough with most of the melted butter, reserving about 1 tbs. Sprinkle over the chopped Caramilk and walnuts leaving a 2cm border along one long side. Use the palm of your hand to press gently so the caramilk and walnut stick to the dough. Starting from the long side and using the paper as a guide, roll dough into a log, Use a small serrated knife to cut into 8 even pieces.
Step 4Preheat the pie maker. Place a round of baking paper into the base of each hole. Place a scroll onto the paper. Brush tops lightly with remaining butter. Place a square of baking paper over the top of each. Close the lid and cook for 8 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack. Repeat with the remaining scrolls.
Step 5Drizzle the scrolls with the melted Caramilk and sprinkle with sea salt flakes. Set aside until just set.
Tip: Scrolls are best served within a couple of hours of making.
