Take French onion soup mix and add it to butter, flour, eggs and cheese then cook in your air fryer until golden and puffy. It’s the ultimate cheesy snack hack!
35g sachet salt-reduced French onion soup mix
75g butter, chopped
150g (1 cup) plain flour
3 eggs, lightly whisked
50g (1/2 cup) coarsely grated mozzarella cheese
25g (1/3 cup) finely grated parmesan cheese
4 Method Steps
Step 1Heat soup mix, butter and 185ml (3/4 cup) water in a saucepan over medium heat for 3-4 minutes or until butter melts and mixture just comes to the boil. Remove from heat.
Step 2Add flour to butter mixture and use a wooden spoon to mix until well combined. Return saucepan to low heat and cook, stirring, for 1-2 minutes or until mixture forms a ball and begins to come away from the side of the saucepan. Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
Step 3Add egg and 1-2 tablespoons of warm water to the flour mixture. Mix well with a wooden spoon. Mixture should come away from the spoon but still holds shape. Stir in the mozzarella cheese.
Step 4Line the base of an air fryer basket with baking paper, trimmed to fit. Spoon tablespoons of batter, 5cm apart, onto baking paper. Sprinkle with a little (about 1 tsp) parmesan cheese. Bake for 5 minutes at 200C. Reduce temperature to 160C. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden and puffed. Serve immediately.
You’ll need to cook these in batches. It takes about 15-20 minutes per batch for them to puff and dry slightly. Each air fryer varies, but ours cooked 6 at a time.
