Here’s a hacky way to get perfectly airy and flaky slice pastry – use store-bought, frozen croissants! The decadent filling is made with the ever-popular Caramilk, mixed in with cream cheese. Make sure to allow two hours for chilling, before tucking into this dessert.
1 1/2 x 360g packets frozen Bake At Home All Butter Croissants, slightly thawed
Plain flour, to dust
375g cream cheese, at room temperature
180g block Cadbury Caramilk chocolate, melted
1 egg, lightly whisked
3 tsp honey
6 Method Steps
Step 1Preheat oven to 180C/160C fan forced. Grease a 17 x 27cm (base size) slice pan and line with baking paper, allowing the paper to overhang the long sides.
Step 2Use a large serrated knife to cut the croissants
(1 1/2 x 360g packets frozen Bake At Home All Butter Croissants, slightly thawed) in half horizontally then set aside to thaw completely.
Step 3Place the croissant bases, slightly overlapping, in a rectangular shape on a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to press down and roll out croissants to a 18cm x 28cm rectangle. Transfer to the prepared pan. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden. Set aside to cool slightly.
Step 4Use electric beaters to beat the cream cheese
(375g cream cheese, at room temperature) in a bowl until smooth. Add the melted chocolate
(180g block Cadbury Caramilk chocolate, melted) and egg
(1 egg, lightly whisked) and beat until smooth and combined. Spoon mixture over croissant base. Smooth the surface.
Step 5Place the croissant tops, slightly overlapping, in a rectangular shape on a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to press down and roll out croissants to a 18cm x 28cm rectangle. Carefully place on top of filling. Bake for 35 minutes or until golden and set. Brush honey
(3 tsp honey) over top of slice. Set aside to cool slightly then place in the fridge for 2 hours or until set.
Step 6Transfer slice to chopping board. Cut into slices to serve.
