Air fryer quesitos

Recipe may contain gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, milk and soy.

Originally hailing from Puerto Rico, these cream cheese-filled pastries make the best last-minute sweet treat. You only need five ingredients to make them and the air fryer ensures their are crisp and golden.

6 Ingredients


  • 250g pkt cream cheese, chopped

  • 2 tbsp pure icing sugar, plus extra, to dust

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 sheets frozen butter puff pastry, just thawed

  • 1 egg, lightly whisked

  • Bought caramel sauce, to serve (optional)

5 Method Steps


  • Step 1

    Use a fork to mash the cream cheese

    (250g pkt cream cheese, chopped) in a bowl. Add icing sugar (2 tbsp pure icing sugar, plus extra, to dust) and vanilla (2 tsp vanilla extract). Use a spatula to stir until smooth.


  • Step 2

    Cut each pastry (2 sheets frozen butter puff pastry, just thawed) sheet into 9 squares. Spread 2 teaspoonfuls of the mixture diagonally across each pastry square, leaving a 1.5cm gap at each end.

  • Step 3

    Fold corner of 1 pastry square diagonally over the mixture. Gently fold and press opposite corner on top, securing with a little egg, if necessary. Brush pastry with egg (1 egg, lightly whisked). Repeat with remaining pastry, mixture and egg.

  • Step 4

    Lightly spray an air fryer basket with oil. In batches, place quesitos 2cm apart in basket and cook at 180C for 10-12 minutes or until golden (see tip). Transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly.

  • Step 5

    Dust quesitos with extra icing sugar and drizzle over caramel sauce (Bought caramel sauce, to serve (optional)), if using. Serve warm.

Recipe Notes

After the first batch of quesitos, the remaining batches may take slightly less time to cook as the air fryer will already be hot.
