Air fryer French onion potato pom poms

Take your potatoes to the next level with these crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside air fryer spud pom poms. You only need three ingredients, they look spectacular and are actually pretty easy to make, just follow our directions below. Serve these fun potatoes as is or with a mixture of sour cream, sweet chilli and chives.

4 Ingredients


  • 4 medium coliban potatoes

  • 40g (1/4 cup) plain flour

  • 40g packet French onion soup mix

  • Sour cream, sweet chilli sauce and chopped chives, to serve (optional, see note)

3 Method Steps


  • Step 1

    Trim 1cm from two opposite ends of each potato. Place a chopstick on either side of the potato
    (4 medium coliban potatoes)
    . Use a small, sharp knife to make 2mm cuts along the potato (do not cut all the way through – chopsticks help to prevent this). Turn potato 90 degrees and repeat 2mm cuts. Repeat with remaining potato (see note).

  • Step 2

    Place flour
    (40g (1/4 cup) plain flour)
    and soup mix
    (40g packet French onion soup mix)
    in a medium bowl and stir until combined. Add 1 potato and toss until coated in flour mixture. Repeat with remaining potatoes.

  • Step 3

    Place in the basket of an air fryer and spray with olive oil. Cook at 180C for 15-18 minutes or until golden and tender. Serve with sour cream

Recipe Notes

It’s ok if a few of the potato pieces fall off.

To make the dipping sauce, place 185g (3/4 cup) sour cream, 2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce and 1 tbsp chopped fresh chives in a small bowl. Stir until combined.
